Shallotte Courtney HambyHere at Floor Coverings International Shallotte, we love bringing you fresh ideas and inspirations from talented bloggers. Today, we have interviewed Courtney, DIY aficionado and successful blogger of The Hamby Home.

Please tell us a little about yourself.

Hello! I am Courtney from TheHambyHome! I am a graphic designer/marketing coordinator with a love for almost all things crafty! I do not claim to be a professional decorator or DIY expert but I am very passionate about both of those things and hope to inspire and encourage others that it doesn’t have to cost a lot to achieve a beautiful and welcoming home.

Why did you decide to start a blog? What do you enjoy about blogging?

A few years ago when I got married, I started making changes to my husband’s house in efforts to make it feel more like “our home” instead of “his home.” I started out with a lot of DIY and repurposing projects to keep the cost down and decided to create a blog to share all of my projects. I never imagined that it would grow into something I enjoyed so much, but it has. My favorite thing about blogging is the community, I have met so many amazing friends through this experience, it’s great to meet so many likeminded people who love and support one another and truly want you to grow and succeed. My blog also motivates me to keep creating and keep improving.  I’ve learned new skills and worked on some old skills and have seen so much growth in my style and design skills over the past couple years.

How would you describe your décor and DIY style?

I really love several different styles but if I had to classify my style it would be traditional rustic. Our house is a mix of traditional/craftsman style so I really tried to add my style with our lighting and the decor. I love adding farmhouse and rustic elements to our traditional decor but overall my goal is always to look and feel warm and welcoming.

Where do you find most of your inspiration?

I used to get most of my inspiration on Pinterest but these days Instagram has become my main source of inspiration. I follow a lot of bloggers, interior designers and home decor enthusiasts and am always blown away by the talent these ladies have and how much they inspire me. From DIY, to styling, to design tips, Instagram is full of so much beauty and inspiration.

Tell us about a recent project you’re proud of.

The most recently project that I was very proud of was my DIY wooden and iron pumpkin that I made out of a wooden furniture foot and a drawer knob. A lot of my projects are inspired by products or projects I’ve seen before but this was one of those projects that I am proud to say just came to mind when I saw these wooden furniture feet in a box. Another reason this is a favorite is because my husband helped with it. He usually has no interest in helping with my many projects but thankfully helps when I ask for it and I always cherish the quality time we spend working on them together to create something beautiful for our home.

Is there anything else you’d like to share?

I just want to encourage anyone reading this to be patient with their home decor, filling a home takes time and money and you don’t want to just go out and buy stuff to fill a house that you want to replace a year later. My most unique and frugal finds were found at thrift stores, garage sales and estate sales. You can find so many great items that you can repurpose or transform into what you want and you cannot beat the prices. I also always try to remind people that it’s not about how much money you spend or keeping up with the trends, it’s about filling your home with things you and your family love and enjoy. My husband always reminds me that it is a marathon, not a race and as much as I want it all perfect now, he is right, I have to patiently let it evolve.
